By their own admission, Connacht's display against Montpellier in their Heineken Champions Cup opener was far from faultless.
With a lengthy injury list, the Top 14 leaders made the early headway at the Sportsground, and with less that 20 minutes on the clock the game was delicately poised at 20-20.
Replacement out-half Conor Fitzgerald was the most composed man in the stadium as he kicked the winning penalty, and while head coach Andy Friend was delighted with the appetite shown for work, a number of negatives he feels will have to be rectified.
"It was nowhere near our best, we left tries out there," he told RTÉ Sport.
"Defensively we were really poor in the first half and definitely got better as the game went on. We got a real wake-up call. If we continue to defend like that, we will put ourselves under enormous pressure."
The men from the west are very much out of the frying pan and into the fire as they face a six-day turnaround before taking on a Toulouse side who look rejuvenated last season after a few years out of the spotlight.
Winners of the Top 14 and Champions Cup semi-finalists last term, the hosts will be wary that six years ago a Pat Lam coached Connacht caused an upset on their own turf and are capable of doing something similar.
"Honestly, we go over there thinking we can win this game of rugby. I don’t say that lightly.
"We have enormous respect for what they have, but I know what we’ve got too."
With 16 players from a squad of 40 unavailable last weekend, the pressure is easing somewhat with half a dozen back on the training pitch, including Ireland internationals Finlay Bealham, Quinn Roux and Matt Healy.
"We’re getting better," Friend says.
"We have a group of injured players who have been working tirelessly to get back. The good news is we got six of those back this week, so that’s a real plus for us."
