Jean Kleyn will start Ireland's final World Cup warm-up game against Wales, but there is no place in the matchday 23 for Joey Carbery.
Days after being surprisingly named in the travelling party for Japan ahead of Devin Toner, Munster's South African second-row Kleyn has been named alongside James Ryan in the second-row, with Iain Henderson on the bench.
The squad depart for Japan on Wednesday ahead of their opening Pool A match against Scotland on 22 September, but the final tune-up match has come too soon for Joey Carbery, who has not played since injuring ankle ligaments last month against Italy.
Carbery was named as one of Schmidt's three fly-halves earlier this week, but Schmidt had previously placed a lot of stock in Carbery being fit for Saturday's Aviva Stadium send-off.
"If he gets back for Wales we know he's good. If he doesn't, because we have to name the squad before that, then we've got a decision to make," Schmidt said last month.
The head coach's on-field general, Johnny Sexton, makes his first appearance of the season alongside Conor Murray, with Jack Carty on the bench. There are also seasonal bows for Robbie Henshaw and Keith Earls as Ireland name their strongest team of a pre-season campaign that has been far from ideal.
Having started the defeat to England in Twickenham and last weekend's win in Cardiff, Peter O'Mahony is given the week off, with his Munster team-mate CJ Stander starting at blindside flanker, Josh van der Flier at 7 and Jack Conan making up the back-row.
Rory Best captains the side from hooker, with Leinster props Cian healy and Tadhg Furlong on either side.
Henshaw slots into midfield alongside Bundee Aki, while Earls starts on the left wing instead of Jacob Stockdale, with Jordan Larmour on the right flank.
Ireland: Rob Kearney; Jordan Larmour, Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Keith Earls; Johnny Sexton, Conor Murray; Cian Healy, Rory Best (capt), Tadhg Furlong; James Ryan, Jean Kleyn; CJ Stander, Josh van der Flier, Jack Conan
Replacements: Sean Cronin, Dave Kilcoyne, Andrew Porter, Iain Henderson, Rhys Ruddock, Luke McGrath, Jack Carty, Garry Ringrose
