Joe Schmidt has released eight players from his Ireland squad for the final November international this weekend, while there have been injury updates on Dan Leavy and Peter O’Mahony.

After wins over Italy, Argentina and New Zealand, Ireland conclude the international window against America (kick-off 6.30pm).

Dan Leavy was selected to start against the All Blacks, but was replaced by Leinster team-mate Josh van der Flier following the captain’s run last Friday after suffering what was described as "general tightness".

The IRFU were more specific today, confirming a "neck strain" means he will continue his rehabilitation with Leinster after last week's departure from camp, while seven other players have now also returned to their provinces.

Meanwhile, Seán O'Brien has been ruled out for eight to 12 weeks with a broken arm and Robbie Henshaw is out for up to six weeks, Leinster have announced in an injury report. He has undergone a surgical procedure for the forearm injury.

O'Brien suffered the injury while playing against Argentina in what was his first Test for Ireland in almost a year after recovering from a slew of injuries. He was withdrawn late in the first half with Leavy coming on to replace him.

Leinster also report that Henshaw is undergoing a period of rehabilitation for a hamstring strain, and will be out for a period of four to six weeks. Henshaw injured his hamstring in the warm-up before Ireland's clash with Argentina.

Sean Cronin, Jack McGrath, Rob Kearney, James Ryan, Jordan Larmour, Dan Leavy and Kieran Marmion have re-joined their provinces, while there was positive news on O’Mahony after he left the field of play shortly after the hour mark on Saturday.

The Munster captain was named man-of-the-match for his performance before hobbling off, but it was confirmed it was a dead leg injury and will be assessed later in the week.

Schmidt is expected to make wholesale changes for the visit of USA and will name his starting team on Thursday afternoon.
