Dan Leavy has been ruled out of Saturday’s game against the All Blacks and has been replaced on the starting team by Josh van der Flier.
Despite not training yesterday, head coach Joe Schmidt included the Leinster flanker in the team and was confident he would be fit to take on Steven Hansen’s side.
"We're just trying to manage him," he told reporters. "He trained very well on Tuesday, but he's had a bit of soreness. We're expecting he will be up running and ready. He's just been sore from the week before, full-body soreness. Nothing too specific, but he was stiff and sore."
An IRFU spokesperson has said a "general tightness" has ruled him out of contention after sitting out today's captain's run, with Jordi Murphy taking Van der Flier’s spot on the replacements bench.
Leavy was himself an injury replacement for the luckless Sean O’Brien during last week’s victory over Argentina, replacing the Carlow native after 38 minutes.
