Leinster coach Matt O’Connor was full of praise for his charges following their hard-earned victory over Castres in the Champions Cup today.
Leinster won 21-16 at Stade Pierre Antoine and now have two wins from two in the competition following last weekend’s win over Wasps at the RDS.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport, O’Connor was particularly happy with how their game plan was executed, saying: “We came down with a plan to play good field position and take our points and opportunities when they were on offer and, from that end, it’s a very pleasing result from the lads.
"We stuck in there, we backed our drill, we did our basics and we got back on the good side of the referee and that was important"
“The guys were very composed you know, they were in a pretty good place. I thought we managed field position very well.”
Leinster’s second half performance drew particular praise from O’Connor, who said: “There was a big momentum shift after the break.
“They certainly came out with a renewed enthusiasm and we were a little bit inaccurate, they got into our set piece a little bit and they won that arm wrestle for the first 15 minutes, but full credit to our lads, they fought their way back into it, the set piece fixed itself and we got back into the game.
“The bench was very good for us, the lads that came on gave us real impact and that sort of swung it back in our favour thankfully.
“We stuck in there, we backed our drill, we did our basics and we got back on the good side of the referee and that was important.”
O’Connor concluded: “It’s always going to be tough to come down here and get a result and thankfully we started to hit a bit of form last week at the RDS and we carried that again to build on this week and so from that point, two wins and we’re now in a pretty good spot.”
