Johnny Sexton said Ireland were "back on the horse" following their 35-0 win over Russia

The captain played just 40 minutes of the game under the closed roof of the Kobe Misaka Stadium as Ireland ran in five tries in a largely uninspired performance.

"We are delighted to get a good win and get back on the horse after last week and to pick up the bonus point was exactly what we were looking for tonight and pleased to keep them to zero," he said.

"I think [Russia] are a very well organized team and they made life difficult for us at times.

"The conditions were very difficult, the ball was very slippy so we are very please to get the five points, lots to work on and on to Samoa, a big game for us to finish off the pool."

Man of the match Rhys Ruddock, who scored Ireland's third try and made 48 metres off 11 runs, said: "It was a very tough game, conditions were tough.

"They really put it up to us physically so were delighted to get a performance like that and a win."
