Monitor Closely looks likely to be supplemented for the Ladbrokes St Leger after pleasing his connections in a Newmarket spin this morning.

The three-year-old earned a crack at the season's final Classic at Doncaster after a hugely impressive all-the-way win in York's Great Voltigeur Stakes.

Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam is keeping his fingers crossed the rain stays away from Town Moor ahead of the 12 September contest, but it does appear connections are willing to stump up the £45,000 required to add him to the field.

The trainer told his official website: ‘He worked nicely this morning and we are leaning towards supplementing him for the St Leger but much will depend on the ground remaining fast.’
