After a fine performance at the US PGA Championship, Padraig Harrington has turned his attention to the Olympic Games and declared: "I'm in the form to win it."

The three-time major winner picked up his best finish at a major in four years when tying for 13th at Baltusrol on Sunday and lifted the Dubliner back inside the world's top 125.

And although Harrington tees it up again this week at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut before heading for Rio, the 44-year-old is firmly focused on fulfilling his ambition to become an Irish Olympian.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport, Harrington said: "I'm so lucky to be in (the Olympics). There's guys that have pulled out which has been to my benefit, big time, but I'm thrilled that I'm going.

"I'm actually a little nervous, I don't want anything to happen to me in the next couple of weeks, I don't want to get injured or anything like that, because I really want to be an Olympic athlete.

"Clearly I'm now in the form that I can actually go on and win it. It's all about getting my preparation right over the next two weeks and clearly, mentally, I think I have it where I need it to be to perform."

Harrington will be joined in Brazil by world No.294, Seamus Power, a winner on the second tier Web.com Tour in the US earlier this year.

Former world amateur No.1 Leona Maguire, fresh off winning the Smyth Salver as top amateur at the Women's British Open, and Stephanie Meadow will represent Ireland in the ladies' event.
