Olympian Jack Woolley marked his return to competitive active since the Olympics and his recent assault by landing gold at the Albanian Open.
The 23-year-old taekwondo competitor got the better of Cyrian Ravet of France in the 58kg class final to claim gold on Sunday.
The victory secured 10 world ranking points and 10 Olympic ranking points after a difficult few months for the Dubliner.
The first athlete to represent Ireland in taekwondo at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Woolley travelled in hope of contending for a medal, but suffered an unexpected opening round defeat to Lucas Guzman of Argentina.
"I'm devastated," he said afterwards. "Some people have come here to participate at an Olympics, I came here to win."
In August, Woolley sustained an injury to his face in Dublin city centre after an unprovoked assault left him requiring surgery.
The 22-year-old said he and a friend went out for a meal before heading to a bar.
In a post on social media, he said that while they were walking back along the boardwalk at the River Liffey, "a gang of roughly 8-12 men and women in their 20s began violently attacking people.
"Unfortunately I was victim to these random attacks as I was just walking by, before I was punched in the face by one of these group members."
Woolley disclosed that he had his lip reconstructed as the upper lip had "completely come off", requiring stitches.
"There was a hole in my face. At the time it wasn't sore at all, there was a lot of adrenaline going on.
