Tom Brady won his battle of the great quarterbacks with Peyton Manning - but it was the Pittsburgh Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger who made NFL history on Sunday.

Brady's New England Patriots claimed a 43-21 victory over Manning's Denver Broncos - and the best record in the AFC, at 7-2 - as Brady threw for 333 yards and four touchdowns.

Julian Edelman also took a punt back 84 yards for a touchdown.

Elsewhere, Roethlisberger threw six touchdowns for the second successive week to lead the Steelers to a 43-23 win over rivals the Baltimore Ravens.

His 12 passing scores in two weeks are the most in NFL history, beating a record shared by Oakland's Tom Flores in 1963 and Brady in 2007.

Breakout rookie Martavis Bryant caught two of those, taking his tally to five in three career games, while the prolific Antonio Brown had 11 grabs for 144 yards and a touchdown. Markus Wheaton, tight-end Matt Spaeth and running-back Le'Veon Bell caught the other touchdown passes.

Roethlisberger told the Steelers' website: "It means that guys are catching touchdowns and it's fun - especially the last one, I was so happy for Matt, that was such a big play for a guy that's been around a long time, that puts a lot of dirty work in and blocks.

"(Bryant) wants to be great, he puts the work in. He still has a long way to go but we're proud of him, he's making plays out there, the same with Markus."

The Arizona Cardinals recorded their fourth straight win as Carson Palmer's three touchdown passes helped them to a 28-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cardinals moved to 7-1 as their opponents struggled without the injured Tony Romo.

The Miami Dolphins thrashed the San Diego Chargers 37-0, Ryan Tannehill throwing for 288 yards and three scores for Charles Clay, Rishard Matthews and Jarvis Landry.

It was the Dolphins' third straight win and the Chargers' third loss on the bounce.

Brian Hoyer's 34-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Gabriel - his second TD pass of the match - earned the Cleveland Browns a 22-17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Elsewhere, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the New York Jets 24-10, the Philadelphia Eagles saw off the Houston Texans 31-21 despite losing quarterback Nick Foles to a broken collarbone and the Minnesota Vikings edged out the Washington Redskins 29-26.

Washington's two team buses were involved in a minor crash on the way to the game in Minneapolis, though there were no serious injuries.

The St Louis Rams upset the San Francisco 49ers 13-10, the Cincinnati Bengals were 33-23 winners over the Wembley-bound Jacksonville Jaguars and the Seattle Seahawks claimed a 30-24 success over the Oakland Raiders.
