The A1 Grand Prix series continues to lunge from one crisis to another with the news that next week’s opening round in Australia could struggle to attract all the teams registered to compete in the event.

Ireland are the reigning A1GP champions and are in the provisional list, however, Greg Hooton who is charged by the Australian government with running the Surfers Paradise round, now says he is only 'hopeful' of their presence.

The first practice session is scheduled for Thursday, but the cars are still at a storage facility at Dunsford Airfield in Surrey, and according to one report Brisbane Airport confirmed it had no bookings for the two Boeing 747s expected to bring the cars to Australia this weekend.

A source in the Irish team said it was extremely unlikely that they would take part next week, while A1GP media spokesperson Ann Bradshaw confirmed that the cars were still in the UK but insisted they were working to get the cars to Australia.

Queensland taxpayers are subsidising the event to the tune of AUS$11.6 million.
