The A1 Grand Prix series, of which Ireland are the current champions, have announced a calendar of nine races for season five of the championship.

The new championship is due to get under way at Surfers Paradise in October and the calendar, which doesn't include a UK round, is subject to FIA approval.

A1 have also announced a long term deal with IMG Sports Media to market its worldwide media rights for the next three seasons.

However there are still doubts about the series as there are reports that Ferrari may not supply engines for the new championship.

A1 signed up to use Ferrari powered cars at the beginning of last season but any move by Ferrari to withdraw its supply of engines would leave A1GP organisers with a race against time to secure new engines with the new series now apparently just weeks away.

There have been also been recent rumours that the series has been struggling to put its finances in place.

Team Ireland who won A1 Grand Prix with their driver Adam Carroll last season, have yet to commit to running in series five and will make a decision on their participation in the next few days.
