Harris wins Stonethrowers Rally in Tipp

Paul Harris claimed victory in the Stonethrowers Rally in Tipperary at the weekend. Harris, the reigning national rally champion, and co-driver Eugene O'Donnell stormed to a one-minute win over Eamonn Boland and Anthony Nestor after leading the event from start to finish.

Harris continued where he left off last year to drive his Subaru Impreza to the year's first title, and dedicated the win to the late Bertie Fisher. Harris took advantage of mechanical problems that saw closest rival Frank Meagher plummet from the front in the third of six stages with a snapped throttle cable.

Meagher eventually finished 37th in his Ford Focus WRC, while David Armstrong finished third in his Escort Cosworth, with Michael Barrable and Patrick Elliot completing the top five. Roy White on a Mitsubishi EVO6, finished sixth.

Top six in Tipperary were:

1. Paul Harris/Eugene O'Donnell - Subaru Impreza - 56:35

2. Eamonn Boland/Anthony Nestor - Subaru Impreza WRC - 57:35

3. David Armstrong/Herbie Blackburn - Ford Escort Cosworth - 58:51

4. Michael Barrable/Dermot O'Gorman - Toyota Celica - 59:25

5. Patrick Elliot/Martin Cahill - Subaru Impreza - 59:43

6. Roy White/Des Cooney - Mitsubishi EVO6 - 59:47
