Formula 1: No one to blame says Mosley

FIA president Max Mosley has insisted no one was to blame for the fatal accident which cost the life of a race marshal in Monza. Volunteer fire marshal Paolo Ghislimberti was hit by a flying tyre during the Italian Grand Prix after Heinz-Harald Frentzen collided with Jordan team-mate Jarno Trulli, and Rubens Barricello, David Coulthard and Pedro de la Rosa also became involved in the crash. Ferrari driver Barricello claimed Heinz Harold Frentzen was to blame for the crash and that the German should be banned for 10 races.

But Mosley, head of motor sport's world governing body, has revealed that stewards held an inquiry afterwards during which all five drivers concerned were interviewed and came to the conclusion it was a racing accident for which no one person could be blamed. "Inevitably when you have a multiple pile-up - even on the roads – you will find one or more of the drivers will be very clear in their minds about who was to blame. But all one can say is the stewards are completely independent and if there was someone to blame they certainly would have penalised him," added Mosley.
