Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello has called for Heinz-Harald Frentzen to be banned after the fatal accident which cost the life of a race marshal in Monza. Volunteer fire marshal Paolo Ghislimberti was hit by a flying tyre during the Italian Grand Prix after Frentzen collided with Jordan teammate Jarno Trulli and Barrichello. David Coulthard and Pedro de la Rosa also became involved in the crash.
Frentzen himself had earlier appeared to suggest that Barrichello was responsible for the collision. Barrichello dismissed these claims though saying that Frentzen had braked too late causing him to run into the back of Barrichello’s car, “He was totally responsible for what happened and he should be suspended. It is completely unbelievable that he should think I was breaking early.”
But Max Mosley, head of motor sport's world governing body, FIA, revealed that stewards held an inquiry afterwards and interviewed all the five drivers concerned and came to the conclusion it was a racing accident for which no one person could be blamed.
