Kerry made it three wins from three in the Christy Ring Cup as their goal rush continued with a 4-22 to 1-18 win over Roscommon in Ballyforan.
The Kingdom took their goal tally to 12 over three games, but they needed three second-half majors to quell a spirited challenge by the home underdogs.
It looked like it could be a long afternoon for the Rossies as Michael Slattery hit the net for Kerry in the first minute, and they were 1-09 to 0-05 down midway through the first half.
However, the home side were sparked into life by an 18th-minute Adam Donnelly goal with Sean Canning and Conor Morris knocking over a couple of scores each as they trailed 1-15 to 1-10 at half-time.
Morris and Cian Murray grabbed the first scores of the second half to trim the gap back to three points, but that was as good as it got as Pádraig Boyle took over as he hit 2-05 between the interval and the hour mark to kill off Roscommon's challenge.
Boyle completed a second-half hat-trick on 63 minutes in as Kerry came away with a 13-point win.
Derry picked up a crucial derby win as they got the better of neighbours Donegal on a 2-23 to 1-16 scoreline.
In an even first half at Find Insurance Celtic Park – the ground that hosted Derry City’s 1-0 League of Ireland win over Shamrock Rovers 17 hours earlier – the hosts led 0-11 to 0-10 at the turnaround.
Cormac O’Doherty scored five points in that opening half for Derry with Liam McKinney (0-04) and Gerard Gilmore (0-03) carrying the fight for the Tir Chonaill men.
The Oakleafers grabbed a crucial goal through Deaghlan Foley five minutes into the second half to move four points ahead and from there they were always in control.
Rian Collins raised another green flag to stretch their advantage with Dan Donnelly replying in kind for Donegal, but it was much too late.
In the Nickey Rackard Cup, Tyrone staged and excellent comeback to beat Louth 1-22 to 2-14 in Dowdallshill.
The hosts had raced clear in the early stages, Seaghan Conneely and Conor Murphy with early goals as they led by eight points in the opening minutes.
After a series of Aidy Kelly frees settled Tyrone, they got back into it thanks to a Sean Paul McKernan goal 16 minutes in and by the break, they led by two points as Mickey Little and Kiefer Morgan rounded off the first-half scoring after Murphy had been sent off for Louth.
The Red Hands started the second half strongly, scoring five of the first seven points to take a firm grip on proceedings.
Louth kept in touch with Darren Geoghegan, as usual, scoring heavily, but any chance of any late drama was undone when Stephen Kettle was sent off, as the home side finished with 13 players.
