Derry City started life at Celtic Park with a hard-fought 1-0 win over champions Shamrock Rovers.
James Clarke's first-half strike was enough for the Candystripes to make it back-to-back victories for the first time this campaign and ensure they now sit just three points behind fourth-placed Bohemians.
Rovers had the first real chance on seven minutes in front of a bumper crowd as Jack Byrne's delightful pass from the right picked out Aaron Greene, who ghosted in behind the City defence, but his left-footed strike on the stretch from close range failed to trouble Eddie Beach and flew wide.
The woodwork came to Derry's rescue on 20 minutes as John O'Sullivan's stunning 35-yard volley, which had Beach well beaten, came crashing back off the crossbar.
City took the lead against the run of play six minutes later as Adam O'Reilly's corner fell to Brandon Fleming, and his poor shot fell perfectly to Clarke at the back post to turn the ball home past Ed McGinty.
Derry should have added a second just after the half-hour mark when Clarke's cut-back from the right byline found Josh Thomas at the near post, but from close range his shot was blocked by a sliding Jake Mulraney.
Clarke went close right on the stroke of half-time when he was unable to keep his close-range header down after Fleming's free-kick was flicked on by Thomas at the near post.
Rovers went close to levelling things on 50 minutes as Byrne's centre found Corey O'Sullivan, who touched the ball down to Michael Noonan, but the young striker's first-time shot was straight at Beach.
McGinty had to make a big save moments later as O'Reilly's superb free-kick from the left of the box was clawed out by the diving Rovers netminder.
On 82 minutes, a lovely left-wing cross found John McGovern at the near post, but the young striker was unable to turn the ball home from close range.
In stoppage time, Beach had to make a big stop, diving low to keep out Burke's drive and Roberto Lopes also went close, but his close-range header flew over the bar.
On 95 minutes, City substitute Henry Rylah went close to doubling his side's lead but his stinging drive was kept out by a diving McGinty.
