Limerick's five-time All-Ireland winning captain Declan Hannon has retired from inter-county hurling.
After 15 seasons with the Treaty County county, the 32-year-old and three-time All-Star has called time on a stellar career.
Hurling's most decorated skipper led Limerick to a reign of six Munster titles on the trot - he won seven provincial titles in total - and five All-Ireland crowns. They also won the league in both 2020 and 2023.
In 2018, the Adare man was a central figure in Limerick ending a 45-year Liam MacCarthy drought.
With 60 championship appearances at the start of this season, he passed the team captaincy over to Cian Lynch.
He first lined out for the Limerick senior team in 2010 where he began life in the half-forward line before developing into one of the game’s finest centre-backs.
Hannon has battled injury in recent seasons, but featured for his county in this year’s championship and was back in club action soon after.
"It has been one of the greatest honours of my life to wear the Limerick jersey," he said.
"To represent my county, and share the highest of highs with people I love. Hurling has been a major part of my life since I was a child. It tested me, it humbled me, and it gave me moments I will carry in my heart forever.
"I want to thank my club Adare GAA and the Adare community, all the coaches and teammates from underage up to senior level, your guidance and encouragement shaped the path ahead. I will never forget returning home to the village in 2018. That feeling will live with me always."
