Joe Canning praise for match-winner Shane Moloney

Galway's Joe Canning was quick to salute the contribution of match-winner Shane Moloney following the Tribesmen's epic one-point win over Tipperary in the All-Ireland SHC semi-final at Croke Park.

Moloney fired over the winning point deep into injury time to send Anthony Cunningham's side through to the 6 September decider and another date with Kilkenny.

"He had the composure to pop it over and win the match for us," was how Canning summed up the contribution from the Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry youngster when he spoke to RTÉ Sport.

"Fair play to Shane in what was his first day out with the seniors. He's been around a good while, was a minor All-Ireland winning captain. He's a good lad and he's been flying this year and when he got his chance he took it. That's what we want from the subs. They are there to finish the game off for us and they did that today."

Canning, who notched 0-10 of Galway's 0-26 total, was also pleased with the way the side responded after Seamus Callanan's three goals for Tipp. And while many will add that this is a sign that the westerners are now more battle-hardened, the Portumna native claimed that it will count for nothing if they don't bring home the big prize next month.

"Every time we looked like pushing on, Seamie (Callanan) got those goals, but we didn't lie down and that was important," he added.

"If we lose the All-Ireland final it doesn't matter how far we have progressed. Our main goal now is to win the All-Ireland."

Looking ahead to the final, Canning is not thinking in terms of revenge following Galway's loss to the Black and Amber in this year's Leinster final.

"As far as we're concerned, it's a different game. There will be pressure on us but we will enjoy the build-up. Hopefully it all goes well for us on the day. But as I said the goal is to win the All-Ireland."
