GAA President Christy Cooney is keen for Galway and Antrim to remain in the Leinster hurling championship after the initial trial period expires next year.
Following a Special Congress in 2008, both counties got the green light to compete in the Eastern province, and Cooney thinks the move has worked and he referenced last year's high quality Leinster semi-final between Galway and Kilkenny as the kind of fare that could become the norm in the province.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, he said: 'I think it is there to stay. That is my personal view. I think it brings a better balance to the hurling championship and it is better for Galway and Antrim as it will show whether they are really improving or not.'
There is also the possibility that games in the Leinster Championship could be played outside the province, a situation which does not exist at present.
