Nelly Korda will take a five-shot lead into Sunday’s final round at the Chevron Championship at Memorial Park.
The 27-year-old American shot a third-round 70 to go with two 65s for a record-equalling 54-hole total of 16 under par after resuming six shots ahead of the field in the first women’s major of the year in Houston, Texas.
Korda, winner in 2024, reached the turn in 33 after carding four birdies in the first six holes – at one point, she had an eight-shot advantage over the rest of the field – but dropped shots at the eighth and the 13th.
Patty Tavatanakit, the champion three years earlier, is her closest challenger, while Ruoning Yin’s 66 earned her a share of third place with Pauline Roussin-Bouchard a stroke further back.
Cavan's Leona Maguire was not involved in the third round, having missed the cut on Friday after consecutive 76s.
