Leona Maguire slumped to a second successive 76 as she failed to make the cut at the Chevron Championship.
The Cavan woman endured a challenging start to the first major of the women's golf season where a four-over 76 had her up against it to make the weekend's action at Memorial Park Golf Course.
A fast start on Friday was crucial, but the 31-year-old saw any chance of keeping her chances alive in Houston evaporate early with opening bogeys at 10 – her first hole – and 11.
A birdie at 14 offered some respite, but back-to-back bogeys at 14 and 15 moved her back to seven over.
A birdie at the third offered a glimmer of hope, but with the cut at +1, it was going to take something special going down the stretch to stay alive.
Maguire bogeyed two of her final four holes to finish on eight over, 22 shots adrift of Nelly Korda who took control of the tournament with a seven-under-par 65.
The world number two matched her opening round score, with a single bogey and eight birdies pushing her out to 14 under, seven shots clear of Ryann O’Toole and amateur Farah O’Keefe in second place.
