Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow both carded over-par rounds as they got their seasons underway at the Gainbridge LPGA in Florida.

Cavan's Maguire, who recorded five top-10 finishes last year as well as playing a key role in Europe's Solheim Cup win, made a relatively slow start in Thursday's opening round at the Boca Raton course with bogeys on the fifth and eighth before a birdie on the 17th saw her finish the day on one over.

Fellow two-time Olympian Meadow, who was also among the early starters, is two shots further back after carding a three-over 75.

The Antrim native double-bogeyed the seventh before dropping a further shot on 10.

New Zealand's two-time major winner Lydia Ko leads the way after the opening round after a nine-under 63 which has put her two shots clear of USA's Danielle Kang. Aditi Ashok of India is one stroke further back in third on six under.
