Seamus Power is in a share of fourth place at the half-way stage of the Barbasol Championship in Kentucky.

As the Open Championship is happening in England, the PGA Tour's alternate event is taking place at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, and Power followed up his impressive opening round 65 by posting a four-under 68 on Friday.

That leaves the Waterford native in a tie for fourth on 11-under, two shots off leader JT Poston.

Starting his second round on the back nine, Power opened with back-to-back birdies before handing a shot back on his fourth hole. However, the Irish Olympian bounced back with birdie on the 15th hole, his sixth, to turn in 34.

Two further birides on the fourth and fifth holes led to another 34 coming in to leave Power in a commanding position going into the weekend.

Power started the week just inside the coveted top 125 in the lucrative FedEx Cup, which is also a determining factor for next season's PGA Tour, and should the Déise man remain in his current position, he would move from 123rd to 111th in the standings.

And with just a handful of events remaining ahead of the Northern Trust Tournament in August, it would leave Power in an ideal position to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs.
