American John Catlin leads the way after the first of the marathon six-round European Tour Qualifying event at Lumine Golf Club in Tarragona, Spain.

Catlin hit a superb 65 on the Lakes course to top the early leaderboard on six-under-par. The top 25 and ties will earn their tour cards for 2020.

There's considerable Irish interest in Spain. Robin Dawson shot a two-under 70 on the Hills Course for a share of 33rd place. His compatriots Niall Kearney and Jonathan Caldwell were a shot further back on the same course.

Gavin Moynihan, aiming to regain the Tour card he held for the last two years, shot 70 on the par 71 Lakes course and shares 50th spot with Kearney and 28 others.

Five-time European tour winner Michael Hoey hit a level-par 71 at the Lakes.

A wrist injury forced 2017 British Masters winner Paul Dunne to withdraw from the competition yesterday.
