Jon Rahm returns to Irish soil desperate to retain the crown he captured 12 months ago and completely enamoured with the tournament.
Rahm reigned supreme at Portstewart last year, finishing with a tournament-record 24 under par, six shots clear of Richie Ramsay and Matthew Southgate.
He struck up a fine rapport with local fans that's endured.
This year in Donegal, the 23-year-old Spaniard is determined to savour the spectacular surrounds of the Ballyliffin course and make it another visit to remember.
"It's one of the weeks I was looking forward to the most, besides the Major Championships and the Spanish Open," Rahm told RTÉ Sport.
"I had so much fun out here last year. Irish people love the game of golf and they respect it so much. Every shot is treated as it deserves. You get a clap for a ball in the green no matter where you are.
"So far the Irish have loved me very much. They've been able to show me their respects for being the defending champion. It's been really, really fun. I wish every week was like this."
Rahm tees off at 8.20am on Thursday morning from the 10th tee alongside compatriot Rafa Cabrera Bello and Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell.
Of the field, only Rahm and Rory McIlroy are currently in the world’s top 10.
