What a difference ten months make.
At half-time in the 2021 Munster final, the empire looked to be crumbling. Tipperary were 10 points up on Limerick and looked sure to inflict the Treaty's first championship defeat in two years.
Cue one of the all-time comebacks, spurred on by a wonder-goal from Kyle Hayes, and Limerick subsequently cruised to their second All-Ireland title in a row.
It almost seems like a hallucination now that Tipperary were so recently Limerick's closest challengers.
Liam Sheedy, Brendan Maher and Padraic Maher are gone. Seamus Callanan, John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer, Willie Connors and now John McGrath have suffered serious injuries.
The better than expected showing in defeat to Waterford raised hopes that were swiftly dashed by Clare so it's do-or-die time for Tipp.
Even though it hasn't even been three years since they lasted lifted Liam MacCarthy, it would be the shock of this and several seasons if Colm Bonnar was to lead them to victory in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday. Particularly as their free-taker Jason Forde is also out with an unspecified injury. Defender James Quigley, who made his debut last month, has a strained hamstring.
Limerick, meanwhile, have confirmed that Allianz Hurling League form is completely irrelevant by picking up where they left off.
Cork were hammered again and Waterford's two late goals made the final score of 0-30 to 0-21 a flattering one for the Déise.
A third win from three will guarantee John Kiely's men their place in the All-Ireland series. They could probably afford to then rest some players in their last game against Clare, knowing only a heavy defeat and subsequent results going awry could deny them a fourth successive Munster final appearance.
Cian Lynch is expected to miss the rest of the Munster campaign after injuring his hamstring early in the win over Waterford but even without the Hurler of the Year, Hayes (also hamstring) and Seamus Flanagan, Limerick still came out on top.
Hayes has been named to start in place of Conor Boylan at full-forward, with Flanagan among the subs. Cathal O'Neill was an able deputy for Lynch the last day and retains that spot.
Bonnar has made five changes to the team beaten by Clare. Barry Hogan replaces Brian Hogan in goal as Paddy Cadell, Conor Stakelum, Ger Browne and Paul Flynn come in for the injured Quigley, Forde and McGrath. Dan McCormack drops to the bench.
Limerick: Nicky Quaid; Sean Finn, Mike Casey, Barry Nash; Diarmaid Byrnes, Declan Hannon, Dan Morrissey; Willian O'Donoghue, Darragh O'Donovan; Gearoid Hegarty, Cathal O'Neill, Tom Morrissey; Aaron Gillane, Kyle Hayes, Graeme Mulcahy.
Subs: Barry Hennessy, Ciaran Barry, Conor Boylan, Ronan Connolly, Aaron Costelloe, Richie English, Seamus Flanagan, Robbie Hanley, Oisin O'Reilly, David Reidy, Pat Ryan.
Tipperary: Barry Hogan; Cathal Barrett, Barry Heffernan, Craig Morgan; Dillon Quirke, Ronan Maher, Seamus Kennedy; Paddy Cadell, Michael Breen; Conor Stakelum, Noel McGrath, Ger Browne; Jake Morris, Mark Kehoe, Paul Flynn.
Subs: Brian Hogan, Conor Bowe, Robert Byrne, Cian Darcy, Alan Flynn, Enda Heffernan, Patrick Maher, Dan McCormack, Brian McGrath, John Meagher, Gearoid O'Connor.
Anthony Daly's verdict: "All this talk, and it's going around Limerick as well you can be sure, that Tipp have no one left, and that they were so bad against Clare, that can lead to a little bit of complacency in the mind.
"I'd give Tipp a shout of turning up and making it a good contest. Tipp are Tipp; they'll play with pride, and they'll be hurting, but I couldn't see them getting a result."
