Armagh have suffered a massive blow ahead of their Ulster showdown with Donegal as star forward Rian O'Neill has been handed a proposed one-match ban.

The citation arises from a scuffle at the end of the recent Allianz Football League game between the two counties, one that has already resulted in Orchard trio Aidan Nugent, Ciaran Mackin and Stefan Campbell being slapped with one-match bans along with Donegal pair Odhran McFadden-Ferry and Neil McGee.

The Orchard County are appealing those three bans while Donegal have opted against that route.

The loss of O'Neill is a huge blow for Kieran McGeeney's team after an excellent league campaign.

O'Neill was central to the side's quick start to Division 1 that saw them earn wins over Dublin and Tyrone in their first two outings before finally finishing third.

Like the other three Armagh players, the option to appeal will be open to the Crossmaglen man.
