Cork football manager Ronan McCarthy says Ciarán Sheehan will play no part in the 2020 Championship after undergoing knee surgery.

The 29-year-old returned to the Rebels fold earlier this year after spending six years in Australia after his hopes of becoming an AFL regular with Carlton were hampered mainly by injury.

After some impressive early outings in the League prior to lockdown, it was thought Sheehan would lead the line for Cork, but knee surgery means he will not feature.

McCarthy will also be without Tomás Clancy after the Fermoy man tore his calf and damaged his Achilles tendon on club duties earlier this month.

A win over Louth on Saturday would see Cork promoted from Division 3 with a game to spare, with the Munster semi-final date with Kerry on 8 November looming on the horizon.

The highly-rated Seán Powter remains in a race to be fit to face the Kingdom following his latest hamstring setback, with McCarthy stating the 23-year-old has only resumed running.
