Cavan could be without key forward Niall Murray for the remainder of the 2020 inter-county season.

The Cavan Gaels footballer underwent surgery on a quad injury which definitely rules him out of the remainder of the Allianz Football League campaign and potentially for the provincial and All-Ireland championships.

In a statement, Cavan GAA confirmed: "The Cavan panel have had experienced a major blow to their panel for the remainder of the Allianz National Football League and possibly the remainder of this season.

"Niall Murray underwent surgery this week on a quad injury that will likely rule him out for the remainder of this season.

"We wish Niall a speedy and full recovery."

Murray, who helped Cavan reach last year's Ulster final, had not been involved in the Breffni county's Division 2 campaign thus far, with the county sitting seventh in the table after a defeat to Armagh and a victory over Westmeath on Saturday.

They take on Laois at MW Hire O'Moore Park on Sunday.
