Meyler looking for consistency from his Cork players

Cork hurling manager John Meyler is intent on building on his side's win over Limerick in the Munster hurling championship.

After losing to Tipperary in the opening round they bounced back with an impressive dismantling of the All-Ireland champions.

"The hurling so far has been unreal," Meyler told RTÉ GAA correspondent Brian Carthy.

"The first game we didn’t really perform against Tipperary and we performed against Limerick. We just need to maintain that consistency going forward.

"We’ve analysed it and we’ve looked at it. Our work rate was incredible, our tackling, our hooking, our blocking, our decision making was critical.

"It was a massive team performance, supplemented by five subs that came on. We need to maintain that level of consistency that we displayed against Limerick and up that now against Waterford."

Both the team and management were subjected to criticism after their defeat to Tipperary in May, when they came up short at their home ground of Páirc Uí Chaoimh, losing 2-28 to 1-24.

"You have to concentrate on yourself and ignore the criticism," Meyler added.

"In those jobs when you are managing Cork, Kilkenny, Kerry or Dublin, football or hurling teams whatever, you are going to be criticised if you lose matches.

"Certainly we took the criticism on board after the Tipperary match. The performance wasn’t good enough, we had to turn it around. It’s a management thing, it’s a player thing, the whole set-up really and everybody refocused again for the Limerick match.

"Now that match is over again and we need to refocus for the Waterford match. Whatever we do we must maintain or up that performance."
