Longford footballers are on the search for a new manager after the news that Denis Connerton has stepped down from the job after three years in charge.
He guided his county to several notable wins, knocking Monaghan out of the qualifiers in 2016 and putting Meath out of Leinster this season.
His last game in charge was this year’s All-Ireland round two qualifier defeat to Kildare at Pearse Park in June, a game that they lost by three points having led for long stretches.
He leaves them in Division 3 of the Allianz League and they were unlucky to miss out on going up earlier this season, finishing just two points behind the promoted pair of Armagh and Fermanagh.
This was Connerton’s second spell in charge, having been Longford manager between 2002 and ’04.
"It has been an honour to manage my home county and as I leave I have nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for all the players who have represented Longford with pride and passion over the last three years. I wish to thank them for their commitment and dedication during that time," he said in a statement.
"I also wish to extend my most sincere gratitude to all of my backroom team over the past three years. Their dedication and professionalism and advice has been invaluable to me."
Connerton’s selectors Ciaran Fox and Enda Macken have also stepped down.
