There was a trio of away wins in Division 2A of the Allianz Hurling League this afternoon.

In Owenbeg, Antrim claimed a 1-21 to 2-12 win over Derry. A poor second-half display cost the hosts, as PJ O’Mullan’s charges began their league campaign on a winning note.

Derry held a 1-08 to 0-06 interval lead, with Gareth O’Kane netting a 16th-minute goal. Antrim turned the tables on the restart, with Domhnall Nugent’s 47th-minute goal handing the Saffrons a 1-09 to 1-08 lead.

A Ruairi Convery free gave Derry their second goal late on, and cut the gap to four points. However, the visitors continued to work hard, with a Ciaran Clarke point capping a six-point win.

In the Irish TV Grounds in Ruislip, Westmeath always looked good as they delivered a 2-16 to 0-13 win over London.

Westmeath always looked good in this contest and led by 1-06 to 0-05 after 23 minutes, with Cormac Boyle netting a 14th-minute goal.

Niall Dowdall and Brendan Murtagh were also impressive for Westmeath during the opening half, as they moved 1-11 to 0-06 ahead at half-time, with free-taker Kevin O’Loughlin and half-forward Kevin Reid keeping London in touch.

Westmeath pulled 2-11 to 0-09 ahead early in the second half, with Robbie Greville getting through for their second goal.

The visitors could have bagged a third goal before the end, but London keeper Padraig Buckley denied Murtagh with a penalty save.

At St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge, Carlow were 2-13 to 0-14 winners over Kehoe Cup champions Kildare.

Kildare looked hugely impressive in the opening half, and led by 0-10 to 0-04 after 31 minutes, with Gerry Keegan, Johnny Byrne, Jack Sheridan and Martin Fitzgerald among their scorers.

However, Carlow stormed back into contention, and only trailed by a point at the break on a 0-10 to 1-06 scoreline, with Ross Smithers netting the visitors goal in the 34th minute.

Denis Murphy worked hard on the restart, before Craig Wall pushed Carlow 1-09 to 0-11 ahead in the 48th minute.

Carlow held the lead until the finish, with Seamus Murphy’s 51st-minute goal paving the way for a five-point win.
