Derry 1-16 Wexford 0-10

Derry proved too good for Wexford in their All-Ireland SFC qualifier round 2B clash at Owenbeg, winning in the end by nine points.

After their stirring victory over Down a fortnight ago, much was expected of Wexford but apart from a period in the first half where they trailed by 0-06 to 0-04, they never really looked taking the scalp of another Ulster outfit.

Eoin Bradley, Enda Lynn and Cailean O'Boyle kicked over early points for Brian McIver's side.

Mark Lynch also chipped in with three white flags from placed balls. Wexford kept in touch through scores from Ciarán Lyng, Ben Brosnan and Adrian Flynn.

The only goal of the game came just before the break.

A long punt forward from Derry came off the bar and then hit off Wexford's Brian Malone to end up in the back of the net.

Further points from Benny Herron and Danny Heavron gave the home side a 1-08 to 0-04 half-time advantage.

Despite having the breeze in the second period, Wexford failed to make any inroads into Derry's advantage, in spite of the best efforts from Lyng and Brosnan.

Lynch, Herron and O'Boyle, along with Liam McGoldrick and Conor McAtamney all found the range to ensure that Derry are in the hat for the Round 3B draw on Monday morning.
