To those watching on, Dublin's facile victory over Longford in the Leinster SFC quarter-final was not that surprising.

And while the Dubs are expected to add to their provincial haul in the middle of July, their boss Jim Gavin revealed that the side remain as driven as ever despite what we all perceive as the easy hurdles they have to jump before things get really serious as autumn approaches.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport after the 4-25 to 0-10 victory over Longford, Gavin said: "The motivation for this football team is quite easy. They are a very determined bunch of men. As a management team we have our hand on the tiller to try and facilitate their ambition.

"At half-time against Longford we did talk about the areas that were going well and to see how we could improve things.

"There are no guarantees over the 70 minutes on how the game will go so we have take everything in isolation and try to take something positive from it and that was achieved today."

Many will say that the reigning Leinster champions won't have learned much from the hammering dished out to Jack Sheedy's side, but was still keen to accentuate the positives.

"We always encourage players to take their opportunities if they arise" - Jim Gavin

"4-21 from play is good against any team and that would be one of the more pleasing aspects of the game," he added.

"We have one or two defensive things to work on after first half but overall you would have to be very happy.

"The two goals in the first half from Diarmuid {Connolly} and Paul {Flynn} were clinical finishes. We always encourage players to take their opportunities if they arise.

"Some of our patterns of play were very good and we had three debutants on the pitch today and they did very well."
