Kerry's David Moran and Limerick's Seamus Hickey have been named the Opel GAA/GPA All Stars players of the month for August.
Moran, son of Kingdom legend Denis ‘Ogie’ Moran, played exceptionally throughout all three of Kerry’s matches in August with mesmerising performances throughout one quarter-final and two semi-finals.
Both semi-finals against Mayo were enthralling battles with Moran on top form in his displays that finally led to a narrow extra-time win against the Connacht champions.
Following a tough year recovering from cruciate ligament knee damage sustained in the 2013 semi-final, Limerick’s star corner-back Séamus Hickey showed his true quality against Kilkenny in this year’s All-Ireland hurling last four encounter.
Hickey’s determined, powerful performance, in difficult weather conditions, was lauded by critics and supporters alike as he was awarded Man of the Match in a heartbreaking two-point loss for the Shannonsiders who were just pipped to the post by the Cats.
GAA President Liam Ó Néill said: “Kerry have grown into this year’s championship in fine style and few have epitomised this more than David Moran
"He has been a rock at centre-field for Kerry and his performance in the replay win over Mayo in Limerick was one of the best of the season.
“Séamus Hickey has long been one of Limerick’s stand-out performers and his versatility has been a major asset to successive managers from the county.
"His exhibition against Kilkenny on a most difficult day for hurling was immense and although the result did not satisfy Limerick expectations, his input was something to savour – a fact acknowledged by his peers."
