Kerry's Paul Galvin has been named the 2009 GAA Vodafone Footballer of the Year at the All Stars awards evening at Dublin's CityWest Hotel.

Galvin was one of several key players as the Kingdom recovered from their Munster semi-final defeat to Cork to score their 36th All-Ireland success with victory over the Rebels at Croke Park in September.

The Finuge clubman is one of seven Kerry players to be recognised this year, with Tadhg Kennelly claiming his first All Star at the first attempt following his successful return from Australian Rules.

Meanwhile, Cork fill five of the positions, with Donegal, Kildare and Tyrone claiming one each.

Kilkenny's Tommy Walsh was rewarded for another inspired year with the Vodafone Hurler of the Year award.

Tipperary's Noel McGrath and Donegal's Michael Murphy claimed the Young Player of the Year in hurling and football respectively.
