O'Dwyer commits to Kildare for another year

Mick O'Dwyer has banished rumours of retirement by reportedly agreeing to remain in charge of the Kildare senior football team for another year. The former Kerry manager met with officials yesterday where he confirmed that he would honour the second year of his term, as Kildare attempt to land the Sam Maguire for the first time since 1928.

Following Kildare's disappointing defeats to Meath and Sligo, rumours circulated that O'Dwyer would resign his position with the Lilywhites, but his change of heart is sure to delight last year's Leinster champions.

O'Dwyer's decision to stay on means that next year will be his 48th to be involved in championship football as a player or trainer, having made his inter-county debut in 1954 at minor level for the Kingdom.
