VIDEO: Griezmann double sends Ireland home

Two goals from Antoine Griezmann helped France to a 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland in the last 16 of Euro 2016, but they had to survive an early scare first.

A Robbie Brady penalty gave the Republic of Ireland the lead in the opening minutes.

Brady, the hero in Wednesday's win over Italy, stepped up after Shane Long was crudely taken down by Paul Pogba in the French area in the first minute.

The Norwich man help his nerve to dispatch the ball low and to the right of Hugo Lloris, bouncing off the post on its way to the back of the net.

France enjoyed the lions share of possession for the remainder of the first half but despite creating a number of chances they failed to pierce the Irish defence.

However, in the 57th minute a searching ball in from Bacary Sagna on the right wing found Antoine Griezmann in the Irish box and the Atletico Madrid man headed home to level the tie.

Three minutes later, the diminutive Griezmann latched on to a Olivier Giroud header before cooly slotting past Darren Randolph to give France the lead.
