Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill joked that his assistant Roy Keane has been “caged in” ahead of the second match of Euro 2016 for his side, dubbing Keane “the werewolf of Manchester”.
O’Neill was not surprised to be asked about his relationship with Keane by a Belgian journalist ahead of the Group E clash.
The manager said: “He is fine. He really is fine. We locked him up about 25 minutes ago and I don't think we are going to allow him to come here.
“He is caged in at this minute as his beard gets longer and uglier. But he is good. In fact he has been very good."
The Ireland boss asked John O’Shea if he agreed with his comments, with the Sunderland player smiling as he confirmed he shared the same opinion.
O’Shea went on to praise the duo of O’Neill and Keane as a management team.
“Since they have worked together, I think it has been a fantastic combination. Hopefully it'll keep getting better and better."
