Ireland’s Dan Martin is down to fourth place overall in the Vola a Catalunya after finishing tenth on Thursday’s 122km fourth stage from Baga to Port Aine.

The top of the leaderboard is a real who’s who of cycling, with Nairo Quintana now in first, eight seconds clear of Alberto Contatdor.

Richie Porte is third with Martin, who took the lead in the prestigious early season race after winning Wednesday’s second stage, in fourth 24 seconds off the lead.

Belgian Thomas De Gendt  of the Lotto team won Thursday's mountainous stage, which contained one first category and two hors category ascents, ahead of Quintana, Porte and Contador. Martin finished tenth on the hilly stage to slip out of the lead.

Martin, now riding under the Etixx-QUick Step banner, is a previous winner of the Volta.
