Italy's Gilberto Simoni won the 162-km 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia from Marostica to Alpe di Pampeago on Saturday to increase his overall lead on main rival and compatriot Stefano Garzelli.
Simoni attacked five kilometres from the finish and crossed the line 35 seconds ahead of second-placed Garzelli. Raimondas Rumsas of Lithuania was third.
