Ireland selectors have finalised a squad of 15 players for the Twenty20 World Cup, which starts later this month.

Shane Getkate, Graham Kennedy and Barry McCarthy miss out, having been named in the initial group of 18, but will now act as travelling reserves.

Andrew White, chair of Cricket Ireland's selection panel, said: "It was always going to be a very difficult decision to reduce the squad from 18 to 15 – every player out in Dubai at the moment has proven their talent and deserved their chance.

"The three players who have missed out will still have a role to play in supporting the core squad, and stay on within the team bubble as cover in case of injury or illness."

Ireland have three more warm-up matches, against the United Arab Emirates, Papua New Guinea and Bangladesh, before Graham Ford's side open their first round campaign against the Netherlands on 18 October in Abu Dhabi.

Ireland have been drawn in Group A in the first round, where they will then face Sri Lanka on 20 October, also in Abu Dhabi, before ending with a clash against Namibia in Sharjar on 22 October.

They will be hoping to secure a top-two finish in their group, which would see them progress to the Super 12s stage of the tournament.

Should Ireland win the group they will join England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies and the Group B runners-up in Group 1 of the Super 12s, while a second-place finish would place them alongside India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan and the Group B winners.

The tournament's semi-finals will be held in Abu Dhabi on 10 November and Dubai on 11 November, with the final scheduled in the latter city on 14 November.

Ireland squad: Andrew Balbirnie (c), Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Josh Little, Andrew McBrine, Kevin O'Brien, Neil Rock, Simi Singh, Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Ben White, Craig Young.

Reserve players: Shane Getkate, Graham Kennedy, Barry McCarthy.
