Warne moves to defuse suspension row

Shane Warne has stood down from all official training in an attempt to defuse the growing rumpus over the terms of his suspension. Cricket Australia had initially indicated Warne was free to train with both the national team and his Victoria state side while serving a 12-month drugs ban.

But after growing opposition from both the World Anti-Doping Agency and Australia's Minister for Sport Rod Kemp, the Australian Sport Commission advised Cricket Australia the situation was unacceptable.

Cricket Australia was placed in a no-win situation - either uphold it's original ruling and risk losing up to $1.5million in ASC funding, or be accused of moving the goalposts retrospectively.

While the Cricket Australia board met in Melbourne to thrash out a solution, Warne took the problem out of their hands by declaring he would cease training with Victoria and would not link up with the national team until his ban expires
