Australia reach final of World Cup

Brett Lee inspired Australia to victory over Sri Lanka in a rain-affected World Cup semi-final today. Bowling with lightning speed in his opening spell, Lee dismissed Marvan Atapattu (14), Hashan Tillakaratne (3) and Avishka Gunawardene (1), taking three for 17 from 24 deliveries.

Sri Lanka, set only 213 to win on another slow pitch, had slumped to 123 for seven after 38.1 overs when heavy rain drove the players off the field. Australia, the defending champions, were awarded the match by 48 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis system and will meet the winners of Thursday's India-Kenya semi-final in the final on Sunday.
