Rain washes out second Test in Hamilton

The first day of play of the second Test between New Zealand and India in Hamilton was abandoned without a single ball being bowled. Umpires Daryl Harper and Asoka de Silva waited until 2.50pm local time before finally succumbing to the atrocious weather conditions and abandoning play for the day.

Heavy persistent rain prevented play from getting underway on time and although groundstaff spend the morning constantly mopping up the outfield hoping for a break in the weather, they were forced to admit defeat by mid-afternoon.

New Zealand are one-up in the two-match series after winning the opening Test by 10 wickets.
