England finally win in Australia

Nasser Hussain and Alec Stewart pushed England towards the first victory of their disastrous Australian tour at the Gabba in Brisbane today. Nasser Hussain's side recorded a 43-run victory in their third game - and SriLanka's opener - of the VB one-day series.

The team elders got stuck into Sri Lanka's bowlers in the third game of the triangular series to help England towards a 50-over total of 292. In reply, Sri Lanka could only claim 249 for six despite, in spite of an impressive 72 from Mahela Jayawardene.

It was England's third-highest total in a one-day match in Australia ensured that Hussain's team claimed their first tour match since arriving in Australia last October.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh, trailing 102 runs behind the West Indies on the first innings, were 40 without loss in their second innings at the close of the second day of the second and final test in Chittagong. Bangladesh lost the first Test in Dhaka by an innings and 310 runs.
