Warne to recover for World Cup

Shane Warne is expected to recover in time for the World Cup after undergoing surgery on his dislocated shoulder. Warne picked up the injury yesterday while participating in Australia's emphatic 89-run triangular series win over England at the MCG.

Warne underwent reconstructive surgery on the shoulder only four years ago but was stretchered off in agony yesterday after jarring it when attempting to field a drive from Craig White off his own bowling.

Melbourne specialist Greg Hoy performed exploratory surgery and although Warne is set to miss the remainder of the Ashes series, he is expected to make the start of the World Cup in late February. However, the Australian Cricket Board will have to show a leap of faith in his fitness if he is to be included with the final squads having to be submitted to the International Cricket Council by December 31.
