Eddie Hearn: Amanda Serrano camp don't want Katie Taylor rematch this year

Katie Taylor's promoter Eddie Hearn says a mooted Croke Park rematch with Amanda Serrano will not happen this year due to the reluctance of the Serrano camp.

Taylor, the current undisputed lightweight champion, defeated Serrano by split decision at New York's iconic Madison Square Garden in April in what was widely viewed as the most significant bout in women's boxing history.

In the wake of that fight, the possibility of a rematch in Dublin was raised and in May, Taylor's promotional company Matchroom Boxing held talks with Croke Park over staging a fight in the stadium this autumn.

The Bray boxer has not had a homecoming fight due to security concerns around professional boxing events in Ireland.

All of her professional bouts have been held in the UK or America.

But the chances of a fight against Serrano on home soil or elsewhere in the short term appears unlikely after Hearn claimed that Taylor's most recent opponent and her promoter Jake Paul were not keen on a rematch this year.

Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans this week, Hearn said: "They don't want that fight, unfortunately. I mean we’ve spoken to Jake Paul's team and they don’t want to go to Ireland. They don’t really want the rematch. It's kind of like, regardless of the offer, 'we don’t want to do the rematch'."

Hearn added: "I think they want to go away and build some confidence and get a win in August and maybe we can look at it next year.

"It's very disappointing, because I love that fight and I think it’s a great fight and such a close fight. It doesn’t look like it’s a fight that unfortunately Amanda Serrano wants."

Earlier in June, Serrano took to Twitter and appeared to hint that she would be back in the ring in August.
