Irish middleweight star Andy Lee has defeated Argentinian Alejandro Falliga in Limerick, after the referee stopped the contest halfway through the fifth round.

Lee dominated from the outset against a limited opponent and put Falliga - who had never been stopped in twenty professional bouts - on the canvas three times in the fifth before the referee stepped in to call a halt to proceedings.

Falliga was in survival mode after the first round, constantly on the back foot and not offering anything to trouble Lee, who extended his unbeaten record to 15-0.

After the fight, Lee's trainer Emmanuel Steward revealed that he was negotiating a world middleweight title shot for his charge sometime this year.

Steward suggested that Lee could face the winner of June's proposed title bout between Derry's John Duddy and current champion Kelly Pavlik.
